About Us
Icon Theatre (est. 2002) is an award-winning theatre company and participatory arts charity based in Kent, founded by Artistic Director Nancy Hirst.
We create critically acclaimed community theatre productions and deliver year-round creative programmes for young people and adults. At the heart of our work is collaboration. We co-create with communities, placing real lives and local voices centre stage. We use theatre to transform how people understand themselves and the world around them — helping them reimagine and shape a better future.
Through our Incubator Programme, we support a new generation of participatory theatre-makers, equipping them with the skills and understanding to create socially engaged work rooted in community collaboration.
We are also specialists in theatre for early years audiences, creating joyful, imaginative festive productions that support early development and spark creativity.
In 2022, Icon was selected to join Arts Council England’s National Portfolio alongside some of the country’s leading cultural organisations.
