Our Vision

Our vision is of communities and young people empowered through theatre.

How We Make Shows

Mostly, we create shows in unconventional ways, and in hidden and forgotten spaces and places, everything from old forts to castles, riversides to car parks.

We bring a small idea and invite people to create the productions with us. Individuals, groups, schools and emerging artists get involved. They might offer their skills, their story or local history, take a leading role alongside a professional performer, support backstage creating costumes, or be part of a mass-dance routine that has been rehearsed in their school’s drama lessons.

'Icon has been ahead of the curve in understanding that the arts have a role to play in bringing people together, helping them be heard by telling their own stories in their own way, and in the process creating a sense of pride in place and space.'
— Lyn Gardner, Theatre Journalist
'Theatre31 did a great job of making the children feel comfortable and you could see their confidence grow within the session!'
— Year 5 teacher, Queenborough School and Nursery, Sheppey

— Six Ways To Wellbeing, young people's wellbeing project
★★★★ ‘It is easy to take for granted the acting skills of a top theatre company. But when actors embody characters as superbly as this, you can’t help but notice.’
— The New Statesman
