It’s the Easter holidays, and Theatre Fun Days are back!
Icon are offering four days of free theatre workshops exploring acting, art, dance and devising. This is a chance to work with professional artists, learn new skills and get creative over the school holidays.
This opportunity is available as part of MedwayGo’s Holiday and Food (HAF) programme and is open to young people aged 8 – 14 living in Medway whose families are eligible for benefit-related free school meals.
Each day will include:
- Fun games and theatre activities to get you moving and using your imaginations
- Craft and colouring activities every lunchtime
- A healthy lunch
- An exciting workshop in acting, art, dance or devising
Programme
Monday 3 April, 10am – 3pm
Acting Skills Workshop
Led by Barra Collins (LAStheatre)
Participants will explore storytelling, and how they can transport audiences to another world using their acting skills, puppetry, soundscapes and silliness. This workshop will focus on working quickly and playfully as a team – it’s all about having fun.
Tuesday 4 April, 10am – 3pm
Analogue Animation Workshop
Led by Hannah Whittaker
Participants will create characters and stories using age-old animation techniques. Participants will creating their own shadow puppets with moving parts and put on a puppet show.
Day 2 will also include a visit from Laura and her team at Body Buddies who will lead fun activities to get us thinking about food and fitness.
Wednesday 5 April, 10am – 3pm
Dance Skills Workshop
Led by Emie Andrews
Participants will take part in lively dance workshops where they will learn short routines and how to tell stories through movement. Dive into the worlds of Matilda, The Lion King and Shrek The Musical with lots of opportunities to create their own moves too!
Thursday 6 April, 10am – 3pm
Devising Workshop
Led by Barra Collins (LAStheatre)
Participants will develop their storytelling techniques to create a playful and imaginative show full of silliness to share with their families.

Artist Biographies
Barra Collins
Barra is the Artistic Director of LAStheatre. LAStheatre is an award-winning theatre company based in East Kent that creates spellbinding theatre productions and projects for people of all ages. Their work is developed with local communities and primary schools through exciting and creative participation projects which inspire and contribute to their creative process. Everything they do centres around developing an intergenerational vocabulary to sensitively explore big feelings and important topics through creativity and imagination. Recent LAStheatre productions include: The Story Dispensers (part of Coney’s The Golden Key), The Conjurer of Cwrtycadno (Taking Flight & LAStheatre), The Rascally Diner (LAStheatre tour including Just So Festival, GDIF, Point Eastleigh and bOing!), The Curious Case of Aberlliw (Taking Flight & LAStheatre) and The Lion Inside (LAStheatre tour including Chichester Festival Theatre, Watford Palace, New Wolsey, and the Corn Exchange Newbury). LAStheatre are currently creating: The Light Princess (The Albany & Arc Stockton) and an adaptation of The Littlest Yak (to be announced).
Hannah Whittaker
Hannah is an artist and facilitator of community art projects working across various disciplines including digital art, installation, sculpture, animation and performance. Alongside her artistic practice she has taught and led workshops in various contexts; ranging from holiday clubs to universities, working across all ages and abilities.
Emie Andrews
Emie has danced since she was 3, enjoying training in a variety of styles and competing across the country. Emie trained at Miskin Theatre specialising in dance and musical theatre. Since graduating college Emie enjoys teaching a wide age range of children to adults and loves inspiring people from all backgrounds to dance.
