Not everyone wants to be in the spotlight

The Backstage Project was a five-day residency where young people, learnt about backstage theatre roles from professional technical theatre and production experts, and got hands-on experience in lighting, sound and stage management.

They were led by an experienced stage manager, and had guest led sessions with other professionals, including the expert technical crew of the Brook and Central Theatres. Learning from experts with real industry experience, they tried their hand at different backstage roles, learning through discussion, demonstration and activities.

At the end of the week, they put their new skills to the test, creating the lighting and sound for a rehearsal of Icon’s latest production.

The Backstage Project was free to take part in, and was designed to give young people ages 13+ an insight into the technical side of the theatre industry, offering a chance to explore the different technical and production opportunities available out there.
