Icon Youth Theatre and Young Company offer an unforgettable journey into the world of drama. Explore theatre, create performances, play games and make lots of new friends at the same time.
We have two groups for young people in Medway, ages 7 to 12 and 13 to 18 (or up to 23 for those with SEND).
Icon Youth Theatre and Young Company runs during term time. From the Summer Term, Guest Director Gavin Dent will lead sessions with a focus on theatre skills, before young people work towards a show at Glassbox Theatre across the Autumn and Spring Terms. Optional performances, as well as backstage and technical training, also take place at weekends and in school holidays (some activities are age dependent).
Icon Youth Theatre and Young Company create and devise theatre about issues which matter to the group.
No auditions are necessary; every child is welcome (capacity permitting).

Icon Youth Theatre (Ages 7 to 12): Mondays, 4.30-6pm
Icon Young Company (Ages 13 to 18): Mondays, 6-7.30pm

About Guest Director – Gavin Dent
Gavin is a theatre-maker who takes great inspiration when collaborating with young people to develop their performance skills and bring their ideas to life on stage as a collective of young artists. His work has seen him leading workshops in various educational and non-educational youth settings. Gavin has previously worked with Bigfoot Arts Education, Immediate Theatre and Cambridge Junction.
Playwriting & Directing Credits include: All Is Well Ends Well at the Mountain Hotel (Arnold House School), Abra Not So Cadabra (Cambridge Junction), King Neptune and the Mermaid (The Space), Bedbug (Drayton Arms) Fridge (Cambridge Junction), Flutter (Soho Theatre & Theatre503), Gasping (The Space) and Alice in Wonderspoons (The Space).
Why Not Join Icon’s Creative Council Youth Panel?
Creative Council members actively shape Icon’s youth programme, deciding on activities, budgeting, event planning and its marketing, working with professional practitioners on creative projects.
Creative Council meetings now take place monthly, immediately after the older youth theatre group session. All are welcome, whether you’re a regular youth theatre member or new to Icon.
