Since launching our Schools Programme in 2019, we have delivered theatre workshops, touring productions, continued professional development sessions, Culture Camps, listening parties on seafronts and lots more!

Youth Theatre Taster Workshops – available April and October.
Working face-to-face with students and a participating teacher, we offer Youth Theatre taster workshops that are up to 60 minutes and include theatre games, devising activities and improvised performance tasks. These are available for schools in Medway and Sheppey.

Delivered in your school by a member of the Icon team, discover and explore Icon’s approach to making theatre. These workshops are directly linked to Icon productions.
- KS2: Workshops will focus on using real life accounts to inform and inspire theatre making and the use of gesture.
- KS3 & 4: Workshops will focus on Brecht inspired theatre making techniques exploring the stage as a platform for social change, the use of gesture, ensemble and 3 ways to create epic theatre.
Teacher CPD – available May
These free sessions are a full day that take place once a year and are designed to equip you with practical knowledge and tools that will help you animate the STEM curriculum and inspire creative approaches to learning.
- KS1 – We will work with your team to bring STEM subjects to life through drama, music and performance.
- KS2 – We will work with your Year 6 team to inspire creative approaches to mounting that Year 6 production! Including play choice, production styles, backstage roles, rehearsal techniques and involving the whole year in the storytelling using ensemble devices
Creative Career Surgeries – available all year round
These are group sessions suitable for Years 10 to 12 considering a creative career in the performing arts industry – performance, writing, directing, design, technical roles.
A practical workshop led by Icon Theatre’s Artistic Director to develop skills and knowledge and inspire the next generation of creatives.
Workshop includes:
- Learning about a variety of creative careers and building career aspirations to work in theatre
- Finding experience and developing your CV
- Interview role play and making a good impression
- Team challenges – communication and problem solving to find a resolution
- Q and A session with Icon Theatre’s Artistic Director Nancy Hirst
